Langkawi is an archipelago consisting of 99 tropical islands in the Andaman Sea off the north western coast northwest of Kedah, Malaysia.

The largest island of the arcipelago, known as Pulau Langkawi, is a popular beach destination in Malaysia featuring fine beaches and world-class accommodation.

Langkawi and the island of the archipelago are shrouded in myths and legends about ogres and gigantic birds, warriors and fairly princess, battles and romance. According to a local legend Langkawi had been cursed for a couple of centuries by the pretty maiden Mashuri who lived on the island in the late 18th century.
Nowadays Langkawi rapidly grew as a premier tourist destination, and millions of tourists flock to the island every year to enjoy the beaches and warm climate.

Langkawi’s idyllic beaches are perfect setting for a fun-filled vacation. The white sand Tanjung Rhu Beach fringed by casuarina trees offers unmatched tranquility. The sunset here at dusk, in a blaze of orange and red is truly a spectacular sight.
Pantai Cenang, the most popular beach, is only 3 km from the Langkawi International Airport and is the most developed housing several luxury class hotels, dozens of budget chalets and restaurants. Cenang beach offers a variety of water sports providing fun and excitement for all.

Langkawi Island has been accorded the Geopark status by UNESCO, for its beautiful geological heritage of stunning landscape, karsts, caves, sea-arches, stacks, glacial dropstones and fossils. With a geological history dating back 500 million old years, the islands contain unique formations that stir the imagination and baffle the mind.

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL

The mid-season (neither dry nor rainy) is from mid April until August. The mornings are again sunny, but the afternoons can be overcast.

The dry season is from mid November until mid April, during which time there is very little rain.

ACCOMMODATION

While Langkawi has many high end beach resorts that can cost a pretty penny, there’s also more than plenty of options for those on a budget.
Pantai Cenang is the busiest beach town on Langkawi Island, where you can find many hotels, beach resorts and guesthouses.
The most exclusive beach resorts in Langkawi face the azure colored waters of the Andaman Sea.
